We were approached last summer by Dick Forsythe from the WW1 Aviation Heritage Trust who told us about an interesting project they were trying to bring to France. Collaborating with writers and inviting schoolchildren to write poems on paper impregnated with poppy, cornflower and forget-me-not seeds in remembrance of the loss and sacrifice of the Great War, they hoped to scatter these from a first world war aircraft on the first of July. Following meetings and emails and then a great deal of work behind the scenes by the WW1 Aircraft Heritage Trust in liaising with local French authorities it all came together on the morning of the ceremony.
A Steen Skybolt aircraft (sadly not a WW1 craft due to windy weather conditions) made several circuits of the Crater whilst scattering poems onto the fields below. We are pleased to have a wonderful video taken by Friend Keith Bugden here –

All were impressed by the moving and poignant flight aFer the end of the ceremony.
