Sisters Aalish and Ophelia impressed judges with their writing skills. © Isle of Man Newspapers

The Lochnagar Competition received many entries during 2016, due to it being the centenary year. The quality was very good, even exceptionally good.

The majority were prose or poetry, plus pictures. Having so many entries, it became necessary for several judges to help choose the prize winners.

Additional prizes were awarded this year because of the high standard. Remarkable entries by two Isle of Man sisters, took first and second in the younger group, making their local radio and newspaper. All winners in the older group came from Manor House School, Surrey.

Handsome certificates, were awarded to individual winners and their schools: all were delighted with their prizes and certificates. Frances and Mike Speakman.
