Early November 2025 volunteers of the Lochnagar Plaque Team fitted 41 Commemorative Plaques onto the walkway around the Crater.
Of these, 31 were new Commemorative Plaques, sponsored by kind donations from all over the world. The commemorated veterans served in a wide range of Regiments and Battalions, among one Australian and one Canadian. They saw action in theatres in Northern France and Flanders.
Two plaques dedicated to Friends of the Lochnagar Foundation were fitted in the “Special Friends’ Section”.
One of the plaques commemorates Major Tonie Holt, a well-known person among those interested in the History of the Great War and – together with his wife – writer of books on Battle Field Tours.
The other plaque is dedicated to George Heron. He was a founder member of the Friends of Lochnagar Group who passed away earlier this year. His son Dave came over to attend the fitting of the plaque.

The remaining plaques were replacing plaques that were damaged in the renovation of the walkway. It is not always possible to remove a plaque from its plank without damaging it.
The Lochnagar Plaque Team inspects refitted plaques and if necessary puts them down for replacement.
There are still plenty of slots open for new plaques. The next fitting is expected to be done early 2026.
