It was hot and sunny, during the Working Weekend. Friends and Volunteers had gathered to get the Crater in tip-top shape for the upcoming 110th Anniversary of the Battle on the Somme on July 1st.
Despite some absentees, who we hope to see back again next year, we had a good team of enthousiastic people together.
Arriving at the scene, it looked like weeds, brambles, grass and shrubbery had grown higher than in previous years. But the conditions seemed to have worked in our favour. For when the team was getting busy, it was soon clear that progress was made.
The early starters did quite a lot of work on Friday and when the team was complete, we managed to do more work than expected on Saturday. After that, it was just a matter of wrapping things up with the last jobs on Sunday.
With a sigh of relieve, tools were put aside by the weary workforce.
