It was a great honour to go to Amiens on Friday 1st February where Richard had been invited to the ‘World War I Centenary Medal Ceremony and the opening of the exhibition “Traces of the Great War in Hauts-de-France, the underground archives of soldiers” ’
The medals were awarded for services to remembrance during the Centenary of the Great War 2014 to 2018 in the Somme department. One of those receiving an award was our very own Richard….
The venue was the impressive ‘Hôtel de Feuillants’, in the centre of Amiens, the home of the Conseil départemental de la Somme.
M. Laurent SOMON, the Président of the Conseil départemental warmly welcomed the guests and made the awards. During his preamble he paid particular tribute to Richard’s many years of dedication and hard work in making Lochnagar such a special experience for visitors. The audience agreed.
Following the presentations, we were all invited to the second half of the evening and the opening of the fascinating exhibition of photographs of petroglyphs left by soldiers during 1914 to 1918 in northern and eastern France.
