As many will know, one of our longest serving and best-loved Standard Bearers, Joe Hubble sadly died a short while back.
With his impressive handlebar moustache, Black Watch beret and kilt, he was instantly recognisable and a wonderful sight silhouetted against the skyline behind the Cross every July 1st. Iain and I, along with Hazel Basford and George and Sheila Roberts went to his superb funeral in his local church near Graveney in Kent. He had a marvellous send-off with pipers, Yeoman Warders from the Tower of London (Where Joe was for many years) and even Chelsea Pensioners. We plan to leave a special gap in the Standard Bearers’ line-up this year and his two sons will lay a wreath from the family and us all for him. A true one-off, Joe will be sadly missed.
