Take some time to explore the region and do not miss out on all those special places that tug at your heart’s strings.

The Lochnagar Crater is part of the Remembrance Trail.

This Trail will take you along a few of the most significant places along the lines of the Battle of the Somme.

There are almost a 100 military cemeteries along the Somme.
The large ones, with hundreds or even thousands of graves. And the small ones, with a few dozen headstones … or even less.

Where the large cemeteries give an overwhelming sense of scale, the tranquility of the small cemeteries brings a special feeling of contemplation.

The countryside of the Somme is literally dotted with memorials.

Large ones like the Red Welsh Dragon, towering ones like the Celtic Cross of the Scottish Highlanders, but also small and seemingly insignificant stones and crosses at the road side.

Take a tour and look about you. You will find them everywhere.

There are several musea in the Somme area that are worth a visit:

• Musee Somme 1916 in Albert.
• Thiepval Memorial in Thiepval
• Cambrai Tank 1917 in Flesquieres. Tanks were used for the first time in the Battle of the Somme in September 1916. This specific tank took part in the Battle of Cambrai, but is like the tanks used at the Somme.
